Education

I took my Qualified Teacher Status in Oxford and a Teaching English as a Second Language qualification in London. I excelled at university, with a BA in African Studies and exceeded national expected results in my A Levels and GCSEs, which I studied in Oxford where I grew up. I have been fortunate to have received excellent and much sought after training in a variety of Literacy and Math programs, safeguarding of young people, developing Reading and teaching learners with autism, dyslexia, global delay and ADHD. I have developed an expertise in behaviour management and have supported school staff in creating positive and productive learning environments.

Experience

I am an outstanding classroom teacher and educationalist. I have taught in Primary, Secondary and Adult colleges in the UK, Australia and Egypt. I train school staff in developing Literacy, Reading and Phonics, and I always attain higher than national expected progress. As a result of my excellent results, I have been promoted to leadership in teaching positions and helped develop in-school curriculums and schemes of work. I work closely with school SENCo.s and TEFL departments to develop intervention programs and precision teaching tools to target underachieving students and accelerate their progress. Two months ago, I was requested by a previous employer to teach a particularly difficult class during the period surrounding an Ofsted inspection. This was due to my ability to achieve excellent results very quickly. Due to my success in understanding learners and identifying their needs to unlock their potential, I branched out into tutoring. In the last 4 years, I have tutored many young learners through to SAT and GCSE examinations, ensuring they achieve the results they want. As a tutor, I bring a dynamic and creative approach and ensure my lessons are engaging, lead by the student's interests and fun. My students always make accelerated progress and achieve better than expected results. Moreover, they develop confidence and a real sense of success. Not only am I focused on ensuring every learner reaches their full potential, but that they nurture a love for learning also that goes beyond the classroom. I have a background police check from the UK and references from my most recent employers, on request. And now to address the elephant in the room, as they say - let me apologise for having an upside down profile picture. I have tried to correct this numerous times, but unfortunately cannot. I did once teach several reading sessions upside down on my head, with a young reluctant reader, as it was the most effective way to engage him - so perhaps the photo format is fitting.

Hobbies

I, too, enjoy learning and challenging myself. I am a keen traveler and love to be outdoors so often find myself embarking on walking adventures into the wilderness. I am a competitive archer, having won medals at international competitions and I run archery clubs for young children and teenagers. I hope to be a horseback archer one day and so am currently taking riding lessons. I play the flute and love music, drama and art. "Music is how we decorate time, Art is how we decorate space" - I like to bring this philosophy into my teaching approach. Using music, art and drama, as well as the hobbies and interests of my students - I motivate them to challenge themselves and exceed their own expectations. I like visiting museums, going to live music shows and the theatre. I am not so keen on shopping.
